Report for 2014

December 15, 2014 by janet   Comments (0)

It has been another hectic and hardworking but enjoyable and ultimately rewarding year for the 'Friends'.

In early April doubleheaded steam made a very welcome appearance at the station again, with the passing of the 'Great Britain V11', a week long nationwide annual excursion, the 2nd day of which ran from Falmouth-Bristol ,hauled by  West Country Class 'Braunton' and ex GWR Castle class 'Nunney'. They looked a fine sight on the 13 coach train.  Hope that it happens again before too long!

A plaque was unveiled in early August on the wheel seat in memory of 3 stalwarts of the now wound up Britain in Bloom(Falmouth) committee. Gladys and Ron Jackson and Arthur Tate helped us in may ways in the formative years of our group, and took an immense interest in what we were trying to achieve.

Penny and Paul Hodge, also former committee members of the Britain in Bloom, kindly unveiled the plaque in early August.

We were very pleased to achieve 2 garden awards. Firstly in this years 'South West in Bloom', 'Its your Neighbourhood' competition, and an 'Outstanding' in the more local 'Cornwall in Bloom' competition.

We look forward to 2015 with new ideas and maybe a project or two to enhance the station and its gardens, as well as more care and maintenance. Look out for more pictures!

Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to all.
