On Saturday enthusiasts for Fairtrade braved the cold on The Moor to promote Fair Trading and remind passersby that Falmouth is celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight.

This year the Fairtrade Foundation message was to ‘Take Another Step’- encouraging local retailers to hold more Fairtrade products.    Fairtrade Falmouth were also very keen to draw attention to the important role of local and global smallholders – Sally Stiles  “we wish to remind people to support small producers and so enable our retailers to hold stock that they can be reassured is considering both the producer and the planet”.

To add some creativity to the information on Saturday members made sculptures of FT packaging and waste materials.   A junk Banana Tree; willow Coffee pot, cup and saucer; and Lady Justice complete with sword and scales, were completed in record time and photos will be sent to add to the hundreds already being produced across the UK.

Jane Weatherby joined the Fairtrade Falmouth team before her first bike ride across Cornwall to meet members from the other Fairtrade Towns.
