:Falmouth Town Council is pleased to announce the renewal of Fairtrade Town Certification.

Falmouth has been a Fairtrade Town for 8 years and every 2 years submits a report to The Fairtrade Foundation for formal renewal.    For the past two years Fairtrade Falmouth has continued their usual activities promoting local retailers especially during the annual Fairtrade Fortnight.     Fairtrade Falmouth also works closely with Falmouth Town Council to raise awareness and act on issues of fairness and ethical supply and purchasing for both global and local farmers and suppliers.

Quote from Falmouth Town Clerk Mark Williams   “The Council continues to proactively support and endorse the work of Fairtrade Falmouth. We wish to promote local sustainability as an integral part of the retail offer of our town.“

This year Fairtrade Fortnight runs from Mon 25 February to Sun 10 Mar – and the Fairtrade Falmouth team will be on The Moor on Sat 2nd March.   The stall will also be attended by Jane Weatherby from Callington who is on a ‘Fairtrade Pilgrimage’ linking Cornwall’s Fairtrade Towns and Schools.   She is cycling and walking, being hosted by local communities along the way, stopping off at schools to do an assembly or workshop on Fairtrade and sharing ideas with other Fairtrade groups.   Jane is to be at St Marys School on Friday 1st March.   Also on the stall we will be putting on our ‘creative hats’ and making junk sculptures.  Please visit us for more information and some Fairtrade tasters.    If you are able to help then please contact Lorely 01326 317587 or lorely@transitionfalmouth.org.uk

There are many more events celebrating Fairtrade during the next 2 weeks with opportunities for you to join in and support our small food producers both in this area and the rest of the world.
